Privacy Policy
For the Protein IQ Android app (in.myinnos.protein). Last updated 21 August 2026.
Protein IQ is a nutrition quiz. Most of what the app stores never leaves your phone. The only data that reaches our servers is what is needed to place you on the global leaderboard, and that happens only if you choose to sign in.
The short version. Play without signing in and nothing personal leaves your device. Sign in with Google and we store your name, email, photo and quiz totals so you can appear on the leaderboard. You can mask your name, hide your photo and flag, sign out at any time, or ask us to delete everything.
Stored on your device
Kept locally using Android DataStore, readable only by the app:
- Your round history: the date, how many questions you answered correctly, and out of how many.
- Your running totals: rounds played, rounds won, accuracy, best score, and current and best streak.
- Your settings: accent theme and whether haptics are on.
- Whether you have seen the introduction, and your Pro status.
- A cached copy of your profile details once you sign in, so the app works offline.
A round is only recorded once you reach the last question. If you leave a round part-way it is discarded and nothing about it is stored anywhere.
Uninstalling the app removes all of this local data.
Stored on our servers
Nothing is sent to our servers until you sign in with Google. After that we store:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your Google account name, email address and profile photo URL | To identify your entry and display it on the leaderboard |
| Your quiz totals: correct answers, rounds won, rounds played | To rank you on the two leaderboards |
| The country you select | To show a flag beside your leaderboard entry |
| Your privacy choices: mask name, hide photo, hide flag | To apply them wherever your entry is shown |
| Your Pro status and its dates | To keep Pro features available across your devices |
| A device identifier (Android ID) | To keep results consistent for a device and to filter anonymous entries out of public rankings |
This is held in Google Firebase Realtime Database under a section reserved for this app. Only completed rounds are ever submitted.
If you play without signing in, results are keyed to the device identifier alone. Those entries are deliberately excluded from the public leaderboards, so your play stays private.
Analytics, crash reports and notifications
- Google Analytics for Firebase records which screens you open and when a round starts and finishes, including your score. It also records your selected country and whether you have Pro. This tells us which parts of the app are used and where people stop.
- Firebase Crashlytics collects a technical report if the app crashes, so we can fix it.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring measures start-up time and network response times.
- OneSignal handles push notifications and receives a device push token. Notifications are optional and Android asks your permission first. Declining costs you nothing else in the app.
The app does not request the Android advertising ID. That permission is explicitly removed from the build.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not show ads in the app.
- We do not read your contacts, photos, location, files or any other app's data.
- We do not ask for or store a password. Signing in is handled by Google.
Who else processes this data
We use these providers to run the service, and your data is subject to their policies as well as ours:
- Google Firebase, covering Authentication, Realtime Database, Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring. See the Firebase privacy documentation.
- OneSignal, for push notifications. See the OneSignal privacy policy.
- Google Play, which distributes the app and reports anonymous install and crash statistics.
Your controls
- Play anonymously. Signing in is optional. Everything except the global leaderboard works without it.
- Mask your name so only its first letter is shown, and hide your photo or flag. All three are in Settings under Account.
- Sign out at any time to stop syncing. Your local history stays on the device.
- Turn off notifications in Android system settings for the app.
- Delete everything. Email us and we will remove your profile and leaderboard entries from our database. Uninstalling removes the local copy.
Retention
Leaderboard entries and profile details are kept while your account exists, because a cumulative ranking depends on the history behind it. We delete them on request. Crash and analytics data is retained according to Firebase's own retention settings and is not tied to a name in our own records.
Children
Protein IQ is intended for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed in, email us and we will delete the account.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted over HTTPS. Sign-in is delegated to Google, so we never see your password. No online service can promise perfect security, but we keep the data we hold to the minimum the leaderboard needs.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page and, for anything significant, mention it in the app's release notes.
Not medical advice
The questions and explanations in Protein IQ are general nutrition education. They are not medical or dietary advice, and they are not a substitute for a qualified professional. Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before changing your diet, particularly if you have a health condition.
